Characters
Characters are grapheme clusters: a combined letter or a joined emoji is usually one character. Spaces, tabs and line breaks are included. Line endings are normalized to a single line feed.
Count characters, words and paragraphs as you type. Your text is processed in this browser.
This browser lacks Intl.Segmenter: characters use Unicode code points and word counts use a simplified fallback. Emoji and some languages may differ.
Uses the character count shown above; other platforms may count differently.

Words follow the selected language and the browser’s Unicode word segmentation. Punctuation-only segments and emoji are not words. Different apps may use different rules.
Without spaces excludes whitespace, including tabs, line breaks and non-breaking spaces.
Paragraphs are nonempty blocks separated by one or more blank lines. A single line break starts a new line, not a new paragraph.
Some tools count UTF-16 units or Unicode code points instead of grapheme clusters. An emoji can therefore have different counts. Open Technical measurements to compare.
There is no universal character count that guarantees how a title or snippet will appear. Display depends on available width, device and query. Use a character target as a writing aid.
Character Counter is a browser-based text measurement tool for writing, editing and checking text length. Its counting rules and technical measurements are available on this page.
This counter processes the entered text in your browser. It does not send that text to a server or save it in browser storage. Copying and downloading happen only when you choose them.
Opening the site or another language page makes ordinary web requests. The hosting provider may keep technical access logs, such as IP address, browser and page address. These logs are separate from the text you type.
This version does not set cookies or use localStorage or sessionStorage. It includes no analytics, advertising trackers or externally hosted fonts. Your browser may keep its own page history or form state.
Your text is kept in this open page’s memory. Reloading or closing the page may clear it. Download a .txt file if you want to keep a copy. Clear empties the editor; Undo clear can restore the last cleared text during the same session.

The counter is free to use. Results depend on the counting rules explained on this page and the browser’s Unicode support. For a platform with its own limits, check the result in that platform before submitting.
